The Climate Action Campaign’s Regional Campaign Manager is a strategic and creative person who manages multiple in-state federal and administrative issue advocacy programs across several key states. 

 

Who We Are

The Climate Action Campaign (CAC) is a vibrant coalition of a dozen major national environment, environmental justice, and public health groups, working together to drive ambitious, durable federal action based on science, to address the climate crisis. Our goal is to reduce climate pollution and accelerate the transition to clean energy and a sustainable society in ways that support justice, jobs, improved health and quality of life for all. The Campaign serves as an important center of gravity and convening body for dozens of organizations working together to win the passage of ambitious federal and administrative climate action that is centered on investment, standards, jobs, health, and justice. Essential Functions

 

Strategic Planning and Implementation (25%):

  • Understand and communicate the political context of key states and federal legislative targets to create a knowledge base that enables us to increase traction for climate issues and increase engagement and leadership of our targets on our agenda.

  • Contribute to the development and refinement of strategic plans for moving our legislative targets and our narratives to be bigger and stronger on climate.

  • Become an expert on key states - learn who’s who, learn how climate is impacting constituents, learn where and when climate investments are coming to fruition or hitting roadblocks, and learn the inner workings of state political dynamics. 

  • Provide guidance to inform strategic initiatives for CAC based on your in-depth understanding of the states. 

  • Monitor progress toward strategic objectives and propose/make adjustments as needed.

  • Communicate strategic plans effectively to internal colleagues and external partners.

 

Partner Management and Development (35%):

  • Organize, manage, and direct funded-partner organizations. Build relationships with senior and junior staff within funded groups, communicate CAC strategy in ways that create buy in. Help build internal alignment and overcome roadblocks to successful partnership. Direct execution of campaign tactics and hold partners accountable for their work. 

  • Develop and implement strategies for effective partner engagement and collaboration.

  • Monitor partner performance and identify opportunities for growth.

  • Identify and cultivate relationships with unfunded partner organizations. Identify shared vision and political alignment, motivate coordinated activity, and engage additional players in our work. Build and maintain a strong network of external relationships with senior leaders at more than a dozen organizations per state.

  • Center yourself as “the” person to call on federal climate and clean energy in the state. Act as a bridge for the organizations engaging in federal climate work in the state. Be the connective tissue that is invaluable to the partners and coalition. 

  • Convene key groups, activists, grasstops, and others around CAC initiatives to help foster relationships, share info and resources, and build power for the community as a whole.

  • Monthly travel to key states to meet with partners, allies, and grasstops, build relationships, lead quarterly planning sessions, lead events, gather intel and learn the local nuances, travel to all key media markets, and identify new partners. 



Organizing to Build More Power and Drive Campaign Initiatives (30%):

  • Lead and execute campaign activities including press and visibility events, phonebanks and petitioning events, and more to fill gaps in our geographic reach and/or activity  and to move our targets, and further our narrative to achieve the coalition’s goals.

  • Build relationships with key grasstops and grassroots leaders to move our targets and narrative.

  • Lead by example in the work and assist partners to grow by following your execution. 

  • Track campaign performance and make data-driven adjustments.

 

Operations/Miscellaneous (10%):

  • Contribute to the smooth and efficient operation of the team and organization.

  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to overall organizational strategy.

  • Manage administrative tasks as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.



Required Qualifications

A successful candidate for this position is a mission-driven, hardworking, but fun-loving “people person” and campaign manager who:

 

  • Has 3-5 years of relevant experience in either issue advocacy, community organizing, volunteer management, political strategy, or electoral campaigns.

  • Has experience managing organizing, advocacy, communications, or political staff. 

  • Experience working with coalitions preferred. 

  • Is flexible, adaptable, self-motivated, and can prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Is an excellent communicator and strong writer.

  • Has database or CRM experience (e.g. Zapier, VAN, Salesforce, etc.).

  • Thrives in a collaborative team environment – and is above all, a team player – but can also work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Proven understanding of goals, strategies, and tactics --- how to develop, adjust, and implement on all three levels.

  • Strong time management and priority-setting skills.

  • Familiarity with environmental issues is a plus but not required.

  • Spanish speakers preferred, but not required. 



Salary and Benefits

This is a full-time, exempt position. The salary range for this position is $65,000-$75,000 and is commensurate based on experience. Full-Time Benefits Include:

Work Environment

This position is based in Washington, D.C. CAC staff work in a hybrid set-up with minimal in-office work (2 days a week).

 

Physical Requirements

Predominantly operates in an office environment. Must be able to remain stationary a majority of the time. Must be able to use standard office equipment including computers and keyboards.
